It's a girl! Polar bear cub 'big, strong girl,' vets say

A polar bear cub at a Berlin zoo has passed her examination with flying colors and is a "big, strong, girl," according to veterinarians.

The cub had been alone with her mother up until this point and her gender has only just been determined during the vet's visit.

The little bear is just 11-weeks-old. "We could determine quite quickly that the cub is a big, strong animal, weighing just over 8.5 kilograms. And it is a girl. So what we have here is a big, strong girl," said Andreas Knieriem, veterinarian and director of Tierpark Berlin.

Guests at the park will get to see the little cub in March, when she is expected to be able to safely follow her mother outside.
