A FedEx truck overturned on Interstate 4 late this morning, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred west of Interstate 75 in Tampa before 10:30 a.m. The front tire blew, troopers say, and the truck collided with a passenger car before overturning. The FedEx driver, Lazaro Villarreal-Santana from Tampa, passed away. Troopers say he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The second vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet Volt, was driven by a 19-year-old woman from Crystal Beach, Florida. She had minor injuries, as well as her passenger, a 17-year-old girl, also from Crystal Beach. Both were wearing seatbelts, troopers say.

The truck could be seen laying on its side in the grassy median between the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-4, with spilled packages. The roof of the trailer broke open and packages were strewn across the median. A maroon sedan nearby appears to be the second vehicle involved.

Traffic was backed up in the eastbound lanes, with one lane getting by, but it reopened about two hours after the crash. There were slowdowns in the westbound lanes as well.
