Powerball jackpot soars to $748 million for Monday's drawing

Monday’s Powerball jackpot has risen to an estimated three quarters of a billion dollars after no one hit the big prize Saturday, making it the largest jackpot so far this year. 

The last Powerball jackpot was won on May 2, when ticket holders in Florida and Texas split a $20 million prize.

By the numbers: The Powerball numbers for Saturday’s drawing are 6, 17, 27, 48, 50, and red ball 5. The Power play was 3x. 

Local perspective: No one took home the jackpot, but one ticket in Virginia won $2 million by matching five balls plus power play, and five tickets won $1 million by matching five numbers. Three of those tickets were sold in California, and the others were sold in Maryland and Texas.

According to Powerball, the next jackpot is an estimated $748 million, with a cash prize of $325.1 million.

How It Works:

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and now the U.K. In the game, players choose five white-ball numbers from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball number from 1 to 26. 

Drawings are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. Lottery officials say those odds won’t change with recent added sales in the U.K.
