Publix issues Cranberry Nut & Seed Mix recall

LAKELAND (FOX 13) - Publix has issued a voluntary recall due to listeria concerns.
In a news release Tuesday, Publix Super Markets said they are recalling their cranberry nut and seed mix because it may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The company received notification of the potential contamination from the walnut supplier, Woodstock Farms, after routine testing was completed.
The recall applies to 7.05 ounce plastic containers of prepackaged cranberry nut and seed mix sold at Publix retail produce departments in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina with a UPC of 41415-34986, and with use by dates between August 7, 2016 and August 30, 2016.
The store says there have been no reported cases of illness, but as a precaution, they have removed it from their shelves, and are urging customers with the product to return it to their local stores for a full refund.
They warn that consuming food that contains Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children and unborn babies, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
"Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."
