Search underway for possible large cat loose in Myakka City
MYAKKA CITY (FOX 13) - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission along with Manatee County sheriff's deputies say they still have not located any loose big cats after reported sightings earlier Thursday.
The FWC says it is investigating the reports received by MCSO around 7 p.m. of "multiple large cats in Myakka City."
FWC said both agencies have responded to the area to conduct searches.
Officers are also checking with area captive wildlife facilities to determine if any large cats have escaped.
"At this time, this report is unconfirmed," FWC said in a statement.
FWC also says if you see any large cats in the area, do not approach it. Go inside and call 911 or FWC’s Wildlife Alert hotline at 888-404-3922 right away.
