A South Carolina resort wants to find the person who threw carrots at an alligator on their property.

The Fripp Island Activity Center posted photos onto its Facebook page, showing a carrot on top of one of the gators. The resort said they are searching for the person who did it, calling it, “a new level of stupid.”

“We know some of Fripp’s wildlife is amazing, but this is not how appreciation, respect, or admiration work,” the resort wrote.

A naturalist at the resort said whoever is responsible is lucky, because the alligator didn’t respond and peacefully slid back into nearby water. Officials said they have a description of the suspects, and the find is $200 per carrot. Feeding an alligator can also land someone in jail for up to 30 days, if convicted.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, feeding an alligator is illegal and dangerous. Alligators that are fed will come to associate humans with food and will lose their natural fear.
