WATCH: Azalea the Smoking Chimp in North Korea
PYONGYANG, North Korea - The new star of North Korea's newly re-opened Central Zoo is "Azalea," the smoking chimp.
Zookeepers say she lights her own cigarettes and is at about a pack a day, though they insist she does not inhale.
Video shows the chimp lighting up her cigarettes and puffing away, to the delight of zoo guests.
Other attractions at the Pyongyang zoo include monkeys that are trained to play basketball and dogs that appear to add and subtract with an abacus.
The North Koreans may be trying to replicate the fame of Charlie, the South African chimp, which was also an avid smoker. Charlie died in 2010 at the age of 52.
