BJ’s Alabama BBQ is located at 3423 S. Dale Mabry Highway in South Tampa, near MacDill Air Force Base. April Moreno, known as the “mama on the grill,” is carrying on the legacy of her late father, “Big John” Stephens, who started Big John’s Alabama Barbecue on 40th Street 50 years ago. The menu includes smoked ribs, pulled pork, beef, sausage and chicken dishes, all cooked over an open fire using oak wood. The restaurant also serves traditional side dishes. BJ’s Alabama BBQ is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
