It's a sweet discovery hidden in the heart of Dundee, Florida. Known for its famed citrus candies, Davidson of Dundee is able to turn the Florida orange into a sugary delight.

The man behind the magic is Tom Davidson who now carries on his father's candy shop creation.

"He had the idea, he decided to give it a shot, and that was the very beginning," said Davidson.

Since 1967, the Davidsons have been making citrus candies, jams and marmalades, and even chocolates.

However, this isn't just a stop for those who may have a sweet tooth. There's an experience that comes with dropping by Davidson of Dundee and it's been that way for the past 51 years.

Guests are encouraged to enjoy the free factory tour that takes visitors behind the scenes, giving them an inside look at how the delicacies are made.

"It's a real simple recipe. You're going to have citrus juices and sugar and a couple of our magic ingredients, of course, that I can't share," Davidson joked. "We'll cook {the mixture} up to about 226  degrees, and then well go ahead and pour it out. As soon as we can cut it, we'll go ahead and pull them apart and sugar them by hand as well."

If the candies aren't enough, front row sears are also available to watch the Davidson's jams and marmalades made from beginning to end. During the busy season, Davidson told FOX 13 they are able to make over 4-thousand pounds a day of jams and marmalades that will be ready to be sold or shipped to customers all over the U.S.

From the orange groves, to the shop's shelves, each treat is made with special care and attention.

"Me and Tom will go every morning and taste all the citruses and candies to make sure the flavors on and the consistency {is good}," said Lynn Oliver who has been a Davidson of Dundee employee since 2001.

Davidson of Dundee has created an experience for both young and old to enjoy, where guests' most daunting task will be deciding which of the dozens of flavors to take home.

The factory tour is completely free, and Davidson said they even provide free samples to guests to help them determine which flavors they like best.

Davidson of Dundee is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the months of October to April. From May to September, the shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
