A 17-year-old has died following a traffic crash in Pinellas Park, officials say

Pinellas Park first responders arrived at the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 49th Street North and 70th Avenue North around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police say, according to preliminary evidence, a red 2001 Ford F-150, driven by a 71-year-old male, was traveling north on 49th Street in the westbound turn lane of 70th Avenue. At this time, a white 2012 Mazda 5 was southbound on 49th Street in the center lane. Both vehicles were approaching the intersection with a yellow traffic signal and crashed.

The 71-year-old driver had serious, but not life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda, 17-year-old Teo Kulic of St. Petersburg, passed away from his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Pinellas Park police say impairment doesn’t seem to be a factor. The intersection was closed for more than three hours, but has since reopened.

There is no word on whether charges will be filed. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
