A wreath-laying ceremony took place at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg Saturday.

It was part of Wreaths Across America, a campaign started to place a wreath on every service member's grave.

The St. Petersburg Civil Air Patrol presided over the ceremony and cadets from two of its squadrons placed the wreaths.

Officials say the ceremony is just a small way to thank and recognize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

More than 5,800 wreaths were laid on grave markers at Bay Pines.

There are 34,000 service members buried there, so they hope to raise money for more wreaths next year through donations.
