A massive snake became a real-life lesson for students in Miami after it was caught outside a high school.

It took several officers to nab the 9-foot Burmese python outside Homestead High School Wednesday morning. The responding cops took a few moments to pose with the snake before handing it off to Miami-Dade's Fire Rescue Venom One unit.

"They took matters into their own hands and went above and beyond and apprehended the Burmese python and held it for the venom response team," Maj. Edwin Lopez of Miami-Dade Schools Police.

"I was in the classroom, teaching, and the topic was related to the surprise that they had for me outside," laughed teacher Joe Gonzalez.  "[The students] were able to see it here, in real life; an example of invasive species coming onto our territory."

No injuries were reported during the capture.
