Deputies: Couple found dead in home victims of homicide

RIVERVIEW (FOX 13) - Deputies say the married couple found dead in their home in Riverview are victims of a double homicide.

They made the determination late Thursday night, after executing a search warrant at 10719 Dixon Drive.

The bodies found were those of Virgil Best, 70, and Shirley Best, 69.

"Everybody in the neighborhood is wondering what is going on," said Mary Ann Romanosky, a neighbor.

The Bests were found at 6:15 a.m. by a relative who called 911.

Deputies will not say who the relative is.

"They were asking me if we knew them or heard anything last night," said Romanosky. "We don't, we go to bed early."

Crime scene techs arrived in droves to the 5-acre property that contains a fish farm out back.

The Bests owned Quality Fins, a tropical fish business.

Deputies will only use the term, "upper body trauma" to say how they died.

"We are going to keep it very general right now because we are still very early in the investigation," said Col. Donna Lusczynski of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies are trying to figure out who last saw the couple alive, and when.  Despite all the questions, they say they don't believe the general public is in danger, which is generally a sign they have at least a theory of what happened.

Family members gathered near the home to watch detectives, and wait.

"I know if it happened to my family, how we'd feel," said Romanosky. "It's scary."

Deputies have not said anything about the murder weapon, or where in the home the bodies were found.

Family told us they were not ready to comment.
