Deputies: Woman shot at a bus stop in Orange County; suspect arrested in New York
Search for suspect underway after woman shot at bus stop
Authorities are searching for a suspect after a 70-year-old woman was shot while waiting at a bus stop in Orange County, leaving her critically injured and prompting a large law enforcement response.
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Update (June 23): The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the U.S. Marshals arrested 27-year-old Kevin Millares in New York in connection to the shooting of an older woman at a bus stop earlier this month. He is being held at Riker's Island.
Update (June 10): Orange County Sheriff John Mina told FOX 35's Hannah Mackenzie that the woman who was shot is expected to be OK.
"The victim is going to survive. I'm being told the injuries were all non-life-threatening. One did come close, one bullet did come close to some vital organs., but just nicked it," he said.
Sheriff Mina said deputies believe the suspected shooter ran or drove from the area. He was not able to release any details on the alleged suspect, whether deputies know who he is, nor whether he is believed to be in the area, in the state, or out of state.
FOX 35 asked about the second investigation that resulted in an hours-long standoff down the street. Sheriff Mina was unable to confirm whether or not that investigation was connected to the shooting investigation.
