Fox rescued after getting head stuck in tire

BRISTOL, England - Animal welfare charity workers helped dislodge a fox that got its head stuck in a discarded tire in Bristol, England, on Oct. 4.

Staff from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) at the Bristol Animal Rescue Centre came to the animal’s aid after staff at a storage center found the stricken fox.

“He was wedged and I didn’t want to hurt him by trying to remove him there and then, so we took the whole tire – fox still wedged – over to our Bristol centre,” said RSPCA Inspector Alan Barnes in a press release.

The fox’s rescuers used a veterinary lubricant to gently remove its head from the tire. The fox, who was nicknamed “Michelin,” was not injured, the RSPCA said.

The RSPCA added that it receives over one million calls every year reporting animals in need of help. In 2018, about 24,300 of those calls were about foxes.
