Kirk Medas, 'Floribama Shore' star, dies at 33

Kirk Medas, a star of the MTV reality show "Floribama Shore," has died. He was 33 years old.

"Floribama Shore" was a spinoff of the popular reality show "Jersey Shore." The show followed eight people living in the Florida Panhandle. Medas was on the MTV show for 25 episodes from 2017 until 2020.

What we know:

Medas was hospitalized with severe necrotizing pancreatitis for more than two weeks before his death.. Medas’ father told TMZ that his son died of liver failure.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, necrotizing pancreatitis is a complication of acute pancreatitis that causes part of your pancreas to die.

"The most common cause of severe acute pancreatitis is gallstone disease when a gallstone obstructs your pancreatic duct," the Cleveland Clinic states on its website. "This is also called gallstone pancreatitis. The second leading cause is alcohol use."

What we don't know:

It’s unclear what caused the severe pancreatitis in Medas.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Kirk Medas, a beloved member of the Floribama Shore family. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans during this difficult time," an MTV spokesperson said in a statement Friday, according to People.

Amy Adams Hall, one of Medas’ "Floribama Shore" castmates, shared a GoFundMe and update on Medas’ condition on Instagram Thursday.

"Please pray for Kirk. Pray for his mother. Pray for his friends. And pray for his castmates—we’re all hurting," she said.
