Man arrested, charged in transgender murder

He's just 18-years old, but detectives say Keith Gaillard is a violent career criminal. His latest charge: the first degree murder of 25-year-old a transgender woman in Tampa last week.

Clarke was found murdered at the University Community Park on North 22nd Street last week. According to detectives, she was shot in the arm and head.

Gaillard's DNA was under Clarke's fingernails and on a cigar wrapper and a used condom inside Clarke's rental car. The car was found in the center's parking lot.

The former Freedom High School student and known Drak gang associate turned himself in and was booked into jail without bond last night.

Clarke's mom said she's relieved, but the pain of losing a child is still fresh.

"India's gone and now his life is gone. And it wasn't even worth it. I can't even think what would possibly be worth now two lives gone. Because I know his parents are probably hurting now that he's going to be locked up probably for the rest of his life and I'm hurting because I've lost my child," Thelma Clarke said Wednesday.

Aside from physical evidence, detectives say Gaillard told several people he murdered Clarke. Detectives say Gaillard even posted a picture of a .22-caliber revolver on his Facebook page. Investigators believe that's the same gun he used to kill Clarke.

Witnesses also told detectives the two had a "personal relationship". Now, India's parents are left wondering if the crime was over love or hate?

"I don't know what it was but whatever it was, my son didn't deserve to die," India Clarke's father, Samuel, said Wednesday.

The family is now planning India's funeral. It's set for this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Bible-Based Fellowship Church in Temple Terrace.
