Mobile cafe serving up coffee, purpose
(FOX 13) - A new mobile cafe is serving up more than coffee.
Artistas Cafe specializes in coffee, tea, smoothies, and snacks, but most importantly, they're all about customer service.
Everyone who works on the truck is on the autism spectrum.
Raymond Leepack is proud to have his first job with Artistas Cafe.
The truck and the program were started by Vicky Westra seven years ago when her daughter was diagnosed with autism.
"With the truck, we're able to get out in the community and provide some education and allow people to see people with autism at work and being successful," Westra said.
The purpose of the truck is to give people with autism an opportunity to become self-sufficient and make a positive contribution to society.
"This was a real blessing for me and my family too," said employee Russell Wadsworth. "My brother is also working on the truck."
Vicky and her crew are changing misconceptions about what it means to have autism in the workplace - one customer at a time.
Vicky and her team have helped hundreds of people with autism find jobs. For more information, visit http://www.artistascafe.com.
