Officers searching for suspect who shot into Belleair home: BPD
BELLEAIR, Fla. - Officers are investigating a shooting of an unoccupied home after a woman called to report a burglary, according to the Bellair Police Department.
What we know:
BPD said they arrived at a home on Pelican Place in Bellair around 12:23 a.m., after a resident called to report a burglary.
The resident stated that someone had broken into her home through the back porch.
BPD said officers responded in under a minute and did not see anyone in the area. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit and helicopters responded to the call, searching for the suspect.
According to officials, when officers inspected the back door, which was made of glass, they found a bullet had struck the top half of the glass door and entered into the home.
Officers said the round then traveled into the main bedroom, hitting a picture frame, then ricocheting from the frame to a mirror. The bullet then bounced off the mirror and back out to the enclosed patio.
Two more bullets were found near the house. One just below a window, and a third bullet that hit a brick wall surrounding an AC unit, according to BPD.
Three more bullet holes were found in the back fence. The fence separated Pelican Place from Pinellas Trail.
The Police Department said it appears someone fired the rounds at random.
Thankfully, BPD said no one was home at the time, and no one was hurt.
Officers searched the area but did not locate any evidence.
What we don't know:
It is unknown if any burglary took place, or who fired the gun into the home.
This is still an ongoing investigation, and BPD will bring updates as they become available.
