Pet donkey dies after dogs attack, deputies say
BROOKSVILLE (FOX 13) - A pet donkey is dead following an attack by feral dogs, deputies announced.
On Tuesday around 11 p.m., a Hernando County deputy responded to 1256 West Jefferson Street in Brooksville after receiving a report of an animal bite.
When the deputy arrived, he was told two feral dogs attacked the family’s pet donkey, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
A friend of the donkey owner said he shot at the dogs. One was shot and died at the scene, while the second dog ran away. Both were described as a “mixed breed” and had no obvious attributes to a specific breed, investigators say.
The dog that ran away is described as white and grey with black specks, according to a media release.
The donkey had serious injuries from the incident and was euthanized at the owner’s request. The case is still under investigation by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Unit.
