Roommate in New Tampa home critically injured in shooting, deputies say

A New Tampa man was critically injured after his roommate shot him multiple times, deputies said.

The shooting occurred at a home, located at 10330 Goldenbrook Way, inside a neighborhood off of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Cross Creek Boulevard. The suspect, who has not been identified, called 911 to say he was involved in the shooting, said Major Losat with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived after 8 a.m. and found a 64-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds inside the home. According to the sheriff's office, the victim and 28-year-old suspect are roommates. The victim was renting out a room inside the home.

There was one witness at the scene, and the individual is a relative of the suspect. Deputies did not specify their relationship. 

Officials said, according to preliminary information, the suspect and victim got into an argument, which escalated. The suspect grabbed a firearm that was already in the home and fired several shots. Information on the circumstances leading up to the argument have not been provided.
