Royal ball in St. Pete benefits children's charity
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - A group of women have become community heroes who wear crowns instead of capes.
What has become a sisterhood of more than 20 women started seven years ago with five moms who wanted to make a difference.
The extraordinary ladies of the St. Pete Glitter Queens are putting their creative superpowers together for their annual fundraising event.
"The theme this year is Copa Caliente, A Hot Latin Night," said co-founder Veronica Dunn.
The group picks a children's charity to focus on each year.
"We like to choose charities that are not well known that don't receive federal funding, that don't make a lot of money, so that when we do present them with a check it makes a huge impact," said Dunn. "We decided to do something for the community using our experience to raise money to donate to local kids charities."
This year's recipient is the non-profit Starting Right Now.
"It's an organization that started to pretty much help homeless children," said co-founder Maria Morrow.
The St. Pete Glitter Queens 7th Annual Royal Ball is Friday, September 28 at the St. Petersburg Marriott Clearwater Hotel.
