From Sarasota's picturesque views to its hometown feel, that is why Andrea Quinoes loves living here.

"They always say, 'good morning,' 'bye.' They are very kind. You have people from every country. We have beautiful view and beautiful beaches," she said.

Her happiness is contagious, and the magazine Coastal Living has taken note.  Sarasota is in the running to be chosen as America's happiest seaside town.

They join the ranks of Cape May, New Jersey; Grand Haven, Michigan and seven other seaside towns.

"People are very friendly here and just seem to have a pep in their step and are happy," said Erin Duggan, the vice president of Visit Sarasota.

Duggan says the nomination isn't a shock.

"When we look at research on what tourists think of Sarasota County, we constantly rank a place that people felt happy when they were here and they feel that they want to come back because they had such a great experience," she explained.

The magazine based the happiest town finalists on the healthiness of beaches, commute times, number of sunny days and a list that continues on.  These are items Mayor Wilile Shaw can check off the list.

"Beautiful weather, beautiful beaches, our cultural amenities are outstanding. It's walkable, people walk here there. Ww are a walkable city. It's happy to get out and move about," he said.

There is much more to his city that he believes has everyone smiling.

"It is our inclusive community. We are family oriented. It has such a keen sense of togetherness," he continued.
