Stroll through a Victorian Christmas in Tampa

TAMPA (FOX 13) - If you like an old-fashioned Christmas, the annual Victorian Christmas Stroll at the Henry B. Plant Museum may be just your speed. 

Built as the Tampa Bay Hotel in 1891, the many rooms are decorated with period ornaments and toys and fashion of the day. 

"It takes us three full weeks to get the decorations up," explained Lindsay Huban, one of the museum's managers. 

Many of the rooms are themed to famous people who stayed at the hotel. Thomas Edison stayed there with his family; his room is decorated with Edison-style light bulbs and phonographs.

Babe Ruth has a tree decorated with baseball gear, and John Phillip Sousa's room has a tree with tinsel made of sheet music. 

Every evening at 6 p.m., a barbershop quartet sings Christmas songs in front of a giant tree.

The Plant Museum is on the campus of the University of Tampa, the antique building with the familiar silver minarets. The stroll is open 10 a.m. to 8 pm. through December 23. Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and $9 for youth.
