Suspect in Riverview attack faces 30 years in prison

TAMPA, Fla. - The man accused of attacking a Riverview woman inside her house last summer faced a judge on Monday. Adam Millan is accused of attacking and attempting to rape a woman while he was responding to a service call for a local electrical company.

Prosecutors described the moments of May 18, 2016 leading up to the attack.

"The victim was home alone. Her boyfriend was at work," prosecutor Courtney Derry said Monday.

Investigators say the owner of Big Daddy Electric Company had visited the victim's home earlier that morning to make a simple repair on a ceiling fan. An assistant, Adam Millan, was along for the call.

"During that time they broke a switch plate. It was determined then that Mr. Millan would return to the home later that day to replace that broken switchplate," Derry said.

He did. Around 4:30 that afternoon, deputies say he called the victim into the closed garage to assist him with the breaker box. That's when investigators say he attacked.

"He put her in a chokehold, putting his arm around her throat, dragged her to the ground where he began striking her repeatedly with his hands and fists while he was sitting on top of her, holding her down, restraining her," Derry said.

Deputies say the victim screamed with all her might as Millan tried to cover her mouth with electrical tape.

"During the attack, the defendant also stuck his hand down the victims shorts, grabbed her underwear and ripped it," Derry said.

Investigators say a neighbor out walking the dog, heard the victim's screams and started banging on the garage door to help. Deputies say Millan bolted, but was later tracked down. Investigators found the knife used in his car's toolbox with the victim's DNA on it.

Monday, Millan agreed to an open plea with the state for the brutal attack.

"That means there's no agreement between your attorney and the state, as to what your sentence would be," Judge Mark Kiser said.

Under the terms of the guilty plea, Millan will be registered as a sexual predator. The state is seeking a minimum of 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Millan has a violent criminal history. His sentencing is scheduled for August 10th.
