A Tampa church congregation has come together to help their community in a very special way.

Members of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Tampa are on a mission to help others.

Volunteers like Dr. John Mullinex make the event happen.

"We feel like our church is out in the community for those who need us," Dr. Mullinex said.

Instead of regular church services, this Sunday they're going directly to the streets to serve others.

Danielle Mackie serves on the committee.

"A lot of people think that religion is just worshiping in a church but you can actually be out in the community serving and loving others to show God's love," she explained.

More than 600 church members are volunteering to help complete 32 projects in the Bay Area.

"I think people are just really surprised by the fact that we have no agenda," said Lt. Commander Scott Curtis. "We just want to get out and serve for no other reason just to love on people. It's a mission from the heart."

Call it practicing what they preach.

"What we really want to demonstrate is that we can be the hands and feet of Jesus out in the community," Danielle said.

The church will be going out this Sunday and could use more volunteers. For more information, visit www.servedaytampa.com.
