Tampa man, accused of killing his mother, appears in court
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Put aside the alleged murder of his mother and the rest of March 20, 2017, was pretty mundane for Josh Carmona, according to new court documents.
Detectives say Josh Carmona used a baseball bat and a butcher knife to kill his own mother, Tara D'Angelo on her 39th birthday. He then went on with his chores - picking up his half sister at daycare and driving her to a friend's house, according to the documents.
Hillsborough sheriff's investigators say he called his girlfriend and a friend and told them he had killed someone and was going on the run, and probably to prison for a long time.
Detectives say he then stole his mother's credit cards and cell phone and headed to Brandon Mall. Documents show there he bought pot and spice from a drug dealer.
He then used his mother's cell phone and even pretended to be her, by answering texts she received, investigators say.
Carmona later told detectives he threw his and his mother's cell phones in the parking lot of the mall and then went for a joyride for hours.
Right around that time, detectives were walking into a bloody crime scene at Carmona's Riverview home.
Investigators discovered his mother's body in a downstairs bathroom. Blood stains were found on the doorway and near the stairs.
Later that evening, deputies spotted Josh's car and pulled him over on I-275 near the Hillsborough Avenue exit.
Documents show Carmona was overheard saying "I killed my mother" while he sat in the patrol car.
But what might have driven Josh to kill her is still a mystery.
