TPD: Security tight for U2 concert at Ray Jay

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Tampa Police had an increased presence at Raymond James Stadium Wednesday for the U2 concert, one of the biggest events held at the stadium since the Manchester bombing attack last month.

Police did not reveal specifics, but said fans would notice some aspects of security, while others would be happening out of sight.

Investigators say for large concerts and other events police officers are always out in a uniformed and undercover capacity.

Fans pass through metal detectors and have restrictions on what kind of bags they can bring inside Raymond James.

"I appreciate the bag checks and asking for IDs and that sort of thing. That's good," said fan
Jaime Shearer.

Many U2 fans tell FOX 13 they try not to think about security, but focus on enjoying the show.

"When [terrorism] is in the back of your mind they win. Hell no. We're here to have fun," said Ed Jimenez.

Fans also had to deal with rain for the beginning of the concert, but the worst was over before U2 took the stage. One Republic opened for U2.
