Water main break creates large hole in Citrus Park neighborhood

More than a dozen homes have no running water after a water main break caused a large hole in the neighborhood.

The hole opened up Tuesday morning in the 12000 block of Mondragon Drive in a Citrus Park neighborhood within Hillsborough County. Two families chose to leave, but code enforcement is currently not evacuating homes. Water has been cut off for 14 homes.

There used to be a fire hydrant, but hole has since replaced it. A blue knob was at the top of that hydrant, meaning it was a powerful and a lot more water can come out of it. This also means, if it breaks, more water will rush out.

The cause of the water main break is still uncertain, but officials say they hope to have the issue fixed by the end of Tuesday.
