Weekend forecast: Above-normal temperatures stick around

After a chilly January, February may seem positively tropical. FOX 13 meteorologist Tyler Eliasen says temperatures in the Bay Area are likely to run 8 to 12 degrees above normal over the next two weeks.

In fact, Tampa hit 86 degrees on Friday, breaking a record that dated back to 1939.

The warmup comes just in time for the opening of the Florida State Fair. Saturday will be the first full day of the annual event in Tampa.

“It’s just going to be mild and muggy, some clouds at times,” Eliasen predicted.

Longer-term, Central Florida is going to be free of the cold air currently bringing snow to many areas up north.

Highs will be in the low- to mid-80s this weekend and through next week, with only minimal rain chances most days.

“The humidity is here to stay for the next few days, as is the warmth,” Eliasen continued.  “If you’re looking for cooler air, don’t get your hopes up. The air conditioner is going to be running for most of next week.”
