First reaction: Bucs tight end Cam Brate happy to have Bruce Arians aboard
TAMPA, Fla. - From the front-runner from day one to the fan favorite with Buccaneer Nation, the hiring of Bruce Arians is being well received in Tampa Bay.
Bucs tight end Cam Brate is one Buccaneer that's happy to see Arians aboard the Bucs' ship.
"Any time you bring in a new coach, I think there is a level of excitement from the fan base to the players, kind of everyone involved with the Bucs," Brate told FOX 13's Kevin O'Donnell. "When I found out it was Coach Arians who's going to be our coach, I was really excited. I have some friends that played for him in Arizona and they had nothing but good things to say about him," he said.
"I haven't had a chance to meet him or to talk to him or anything, but I think a lot of players are excited about having Coach Arians be our next coach," Brate continued.
Brate admits he wasn't following the Bucs coaching search, but once the Glazers sealed the deal for Arians, Brate talked with former Bucs and Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro to get some insight on his new coach.
"He said that Coach can be pretty sarcastic," laughed Brate." "But likes to keep things loose. Treats the players fair and holds a high standard for sure, which is awesome to hear. You want to be held to a high standard and I know coach will do that."
Arians' reputation as an NFL quarterback whisper makes him a perfect choice to lead the Bucs. Arians coached Peyton Manning, Ben Rothlisberger, Andrew Luck, Carson Palmer and now he'll gets his shot to help the face of the Bucs franchise.
"Yeah, I think he wrote a book on it too, so I'll have to check that out," Brate said. "He has a track record of having success, like you said with quarterbacks. Hopefully him and Jameis get along well, work well together, and be a good relationship between them."
