We are a few days away from the beginning of August, which FOX 13 Meteorologist Dave Osterberg says is the meat of hurricane season. He says things typically don?t pick up in the tropics until we get into August. However, he says right now there?s not a lot going on thanks to several Saharan dust waves, which have impeded tropical development so far this year.

The tropics continue to be quiet as we head into the end of July. FOX 13 Meteorologist Tony Sadiku says there is no development expected within the next five days. Sadiku says a Saharan dust layer is responsible, in part, for the quiet conditions in the tropics. He adds that the dust layer will make its way to Florida by the end of next week, cutting down on the possibility of rain showers.

Everything is currently quiet in the tropics right now with no development expected over the next five days. FOX 13 Meteorologist Tony Sadiku says there are a few storms rolling off the coast of Africa but they are not going to pose a problem. A layer of Saharan dust is really helping to prevent tropical development and that will continue to be the case over the next several days. Sadiku expects the Bay Area to be in good shape through the month of July.

He says things are usually pretty quiet in June and July but things typically start ramping up in August with the peak of the season in mid-September.
