Humane Society of Tampa Bay accepting strays from Irma

TAMPA (FOX 13) - UPDATE: Great news! The owner of the Chihuahua will be reunited with his dog on Wednesday morning. The Humane Society continues to accept strays from Hurricane Irma.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is closed to the public, but will still accept any strays from Hurricane Irma.

The general public cannot adopt on Tuesday and it’s unclear when the Humane Society location will reopen. However, if you find a stray, you may bring them in, they said.

For one, Tampa Police found a Chihuahua, possible a mix, and took it to the Humane Society. Just law week, they found two abandoned newborn kittens. The mom most likely got scared from the storm and ran off, according to the organization. Both were boys, but unfortunately, one of them passed away on Monday night. Oliver, the surviving brother, is expected to be fine.

“In the next couple of days, we’ll be getting a lot in,” the organization said. “They’re going to be disoriented. People will be able to find their animals if they are here.”

They also need donations. Since the storm, it’s not operations as usual. Their animal health center has been closed for three days and has put them in a tight cash flow, they said. They can also use dry dog and cat food. A lot of their food was destroyed from the storm.
