Hurricane Dorian information: Pinellas County

Ongoing updates from Pinellas County as Hurricane Dorian impacts Florida.

SCHOOLS:

All Pinellas County public schools and school district offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 3. All school-related activities are canceled.

Schools will reopen Wednesday, September 4.

SANDBAGS:

ST. PETERSBURG

The City of St. Petersburg will be distributing sandbags starting Friday, Aug. 30 in preparation for Hurricane Dorian.

- Friday, Aug. 30: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Saturday, Aug. 31: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Sunday, Sept. 1: 8 a.m.-5 p.m., weather permitting

Residents of St. Pete can pick up sandbags at 3 locations in the city:
- Northeast Park, 875 62nd Avenue NE. (located at the Cardinal Drive entrance to Mangrove Bay Golf Course)
- James "JC" Turner Fields, 643 22nd Avenue S. (located on the south side of Bartlett Park) sandbags will be distributed in the parking lot of the fields
- Northwest Pool, 2331 60th Street N., sandbags will be distributed in the pool parking lot

For quick service, residents are asked to follow the traffic patterns and remain in their vehicle so City staff can load sandbags into the trunk or truck bed. Here's a tip: make sure your trunk or truck bed is empty before stopping by. Sandbags are limited to 10 bags per household.

PINELLAS PARK

The City of Pinellas Park is opening a self-service sandbag site for residents only. Residents can get up to 10 sandbags each. Residents must show a water bill and/or valid driver's license indicating they are a resident of Pinellas Park in order to receive their sandbags. Pick up location and times are:

Helen Howarth Park: 6401 94th Ave N. Pinellas Park, FL - 
Thursday hours 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday hours 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Pinebrook Park: 7202 118th Ave N. Pinellas Park, FL - 
Thursday hours 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday hours 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Broderick Park: 6101 66th Ave N. Pinellas Park, FL - 
Thursday hours 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday hours 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

All 3 self-serving sites will be open Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MADEIRA BEACH

City officials in Madeira Beach have opened a self-serve sandbag station at Archibald Memorial Beach Park, located at 15100 Gulf Boulevard. They said it will be open 24 hours a day .

From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., public works staff will be available to help those who cannot fill or lift sandbags into their vehicle.

UNINCORPORATED:

Pinellas County Government has activated self-service sandbag distribution locations for residents. The three locations are open Thursday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will run from 7 a.m. to 7 pm. Friday, Saturday and Sunday while supplies last. Residents can get up to 20 sandbags per person. Materials will be supplied, along with available shovels for use. Staff will also be present for residents needing extra assistance. The following locations will have sandbags available:

•    Palm Harbor – John Chesnut Sr. Park: 2200 East Lake Road
•    Largo – Walsingham Park: 12615 102nd Ave North
•    St. Petersburg – Lealman Exchange: 5175 45th St. N

EVACUATIONS:

No evacuations ordered.

CLOSINGS:

LARGO:

City of Largo facilities will be closed on Monday, Sep 2 for Labor Day.  City of Largo facilities including City Hall, Recreation facilities and the Largo Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, Sep 3 in anticipation of potential severe weather. There will be no solid waste, recycling or bulk collection on Monday, Sep 2 or Tuesday, Sep 3.

SCHOOLS:

STETSON UNIVERSITY

The Tampa and Gulfport campuses for the Stetson University College of Law will be closed starting 5 p.m. Friday, August 30 through Tuesday, September 3. 

Officials say the school is not a designated shelter and will be working with students living on campus dorms to be prepared to evacuate if there are power outages or any other emergency situations occur. 

SHELTERS:

No shelters have been opened.
