City of Safety Harbor turns 100 years old

Safety Harbor turns 100 years old this week.

To celebrate, the city will hold a “Folk ‘n Fruit Fest” on Saturday. There will be music, food, craft beer and games, offering up a little something for the whole family. The event starts at noon and its free to get in and there is free beer tasting. You will have to pay for everything else though.

Safety Harbor became a city in 1917. At the time, there was one mayor and two city commissioners. Back then, wild boars roamed the city and residents experienced frequent fires, rattlesnakes, alligators, mosquitos, and sometimes panthers.

It looks a lot different now.
