After almost two years calling Manatee County Animal Services home, Ember has been adopted.

The six-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix was found roaming Bradenton - in poor health and nearly hairless - on July 5, 2016.

Volunteers said she enjoyed playing in the yard, going for walks, relaxing on a couch, and playing with squeaky toys over the past two years, but they knew it was time for this beautiful girl to move on.

The shelter reached out on social media and to news organizations, asking for help finding Ember a home.

“Ember is a sweet older gal who has been overlooked in the shelter,” they said in a statement. “She is also very responsive to training and her handler. She knows sit, double paw, sit pretty, down and crawl. But most of all she loves to give kisses. She is a volunteer favorite!"

And less than one week later, Ember's new human best friend came to meet her.

Ember will now spend her days at home in Sun City with her new mom and three pet siblings.
