Arrest made in homicide near Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - The suspect in a shooting death near Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital bonded out of jail Sunday.
Police said Malcom DiPiña, 22, shot and killed Scott Franklin, 41, early Saturday morning. Franklin was apparently on the phone with his girlfriend at the time.
Officers arrested DiPiña and charged him with manslaughter.
Police said the murder happened where 5th Street South and 6th Avenue South meet, just outside the hospital entrance.
Franklin’s family members shared pictures of their lost loved one with FOX 13 News Saturday. They were distraught about Franklin's killing.
According to a cousin, Franklin was on his way home from work, riding by JHACH. That's when surveillance cameras caught two or three cars following his, police said.
Just before 12:30 a.m., witnesses then heard gunshots. One of those witnesses spotted someone leaning out of a car at the same time.
They believed the suspects cars went to the next block and headed north.
