Building confidence through cheering

Felnicia Williams is proud of her Brandon Thunder all-star cheer team. They just won first place at the Spirit Cheerleading Championship in Winter Haven.

"I just want to be that person to reach out to them and give them something successful to participate in," Coach Felnicia said.

Felnicia started the team two years ago for athletes ages 4 to 18.

"It’s a great experience," participant Dehavalyon Ridzie said. "It’s fun."

"It felt really good because we worked hard at practice, and when we hit the mat, and when we win it’s just a really good feeling," offered Kayli Morales.

The 40-member team practices twice a week for two hours.

"It’s a lot of hard work. A lot of dedication," Felnicia continued.

Zaniyah Mosley, now 12, started cheering when she was 4. She loves the competitive part of cheering. "The stunting and tumbling and all the difficulty that we do."

Kids also learn how to have self-confidence.

"It makes you feel special because you are actually part of something and doing something outside of school," Kayli said.

Felnicia enjoys watching the children perform. "The joy that I see of these young ladies' faces, just brings joy to my heart."
