Child porn suspect rejects deal, awaits sentence

Johnny Boromei was a successful South Tampa psychotherapist, but his world came crashing down when he was busted with child pornography during an undercover sting.

Boromei recently pleaded guilty to the charges and said cops got it all wrong -- he never admitted to anything.

“What I said, I believe, is I was downloading porn -- not child porn. I said that to my girlfriend not knowing we were being recorded," said Boromei.

But that day Boromei passed on a state deal that would have sent him away for five years. Instead he's taking his chances with Judge Mark Kiser.

At a sentencing hearing this morning, a mental health expert said there is no indication or evidence Boromei would ever touch a child but he stopped short of guaranteeing he would never view the bad images again.

“But as you sit here today, you can't say with certainty he will not reoffend in the future," asked prosecutor Candace Rich.

The doctor said no.

And Rich wanted to drive home one clear and disturbing point to the judge: That the young victim in the videos was as young as 5 years old.

This isn't Boromei's first legal hurdle.  He admitted having sex with one of his patients, but those charges were later dismissed.  These serious charges aren't going away, though.  Getting caught with child porn could get him serious prison time.

It's now up to Judge Kiser, who could rule by Monday.
