Members of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Tampa are on a mission to help others.

Parishioners are sponsoring the first ever Tampa Serve Day.

This Sunday, instead of services at the church, they'll go to the streets and serve others.

"We're looking at this as an opportunity for our church to gather as a community and serve Tampa as best we can," Lt. Scott Curtin said. "You don't have to look that far to have make an impact and we feel that it is truly important that we make an impact in our local community."

Around 400 people are volunteering to help complete 26 projects in the Bay Area.

"We're going to serve the Tampa Police Department. We're on MacDill serving some of the Junior Airmen on MacDill. Then we are doing a car wash and serving them lunch," Lt. Curtin said.

Theirs is a mission from the heart.

"We're going to be out in the community, being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, serving the community in such a way that shows radical hospitality," Curtin added.

The congregation is coming together with love and caring for the needs of others.

They will be out this Sunday and could use more volunteers. If you would like more information, go to www.servedaytampa.com.
