Church's Christimas fund goes to feed hungry in Africa

TAMPA (FOX 13) - A local church choir is thinking globally for the holidays.

Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church uses money it would normally use to buy gifts for each other, to make donations to help those in need in Africa.

"I found out our church had this program, Christmas in Africa," said Nancy Callahan, the director of music at the church. "It seemed like that would be the right organization to play into."

The program benefits those impoverished in a rural village in Uganda.

"We gathered enough funds to feed them for two years one Christmas," said Callahan.

Dr. Sylvia Campbell has seen first hand what those donations can mean during mission trips to Uganda with the non profit, Village Partners International.

"When you think there are a thousand children in a little tiny village in Africa that every day receives a meal, a nutritious meal, because of the goodness in the hearts of the people in this choir, in this church, who will never see them, who will never interact with them, but who know they were hungry," said Dr. Campbell.
