Crime spree growing in Polk County
AUBURNDALE (FOX 13) - A crime spree in Polk County just keeps growing. Investigators have now tied two masked men and their getaway driver to at least four hold-ups within a 24 hour period.
On Wednesday, investigators say they entered Executive Insurance in Lake Alfred and demanded cash from two employees.
"He just kept telling me to get the money or he would definitely kill me," Joshua Dipling told FOX 13.
Auburndale has been hit as well. A masked gunman entered Boost Mobile on Magnolia Avenue, took money from the cashier and a wallet from a customer.
Detectives say the men are also responsible for what happened in Davenport Tuesday night. Gunmen entered two side by side businesses around 8 pm. They held up employees at Webbs Candy Factory and Dunkin' Donuts on U.S. 27.
So far, no one has been hurt, but assistant chief of the Auburndale Police Department, Andy Ray, is concerned about "what if."
"Somebody is going to fight them, or shove them or something, and my concern is that is going to elicit using the gun," Ray said.
Investigators suspect that the same gunmen may be responsible for at least two other hold-ups in recent weeks.
