A blue-eyed bundle of fur is now safe, thanks to a couple of Hillsborough County deputies.

After a citizen heard a young kitten crying from inside a storm sewer beneath Gunn Highway, Animal Services called on the sheriff's office to help free the frightened critter.

Deputies Josh Dahlback, Richard George, Michael Pecylak, and Joe Saponara responded to the scene, where they could hear the kitten but not see it.  According to the sheriff's office, Saponara and George climbed down into the drain on either side of Gunn Highway and used "various tools" to finally coax the kitten out from beneath the middle of the road.

Animal Services estimated the kitten to be approximately 6 to 8 weeks old.
