Deputies: Test drive turns into carjacking in St. Pete
MADEIRA BEACH (FOX 13) - A test drive turned into a frightening and dangerous situation in Pinellas County Thursday.
Pinellas County sheriff's deputies say a car salesman was out on a test drive when his client pulled a gun and forced him to get out.
The suspect drove about 10 miles from the dealership, Crown Mitsubishi in St. Pete, to Madeira Beach, where he wrecked the car and was later arrested.
The salesman, who asked to not be identified, says it was only five minutes into the test drive when things turned violent.
After forcing the salesman out of the car, investigators say the suspect picked someone up and the two tried to make a run for it.
They crashed on Gulf Boulevard before they could get away.
The suspect and the person he picked up were taken into custody. They have not been identified by the sheriff's office.
