Dog dies after being mauled by neighbor's dogs

LAKE WALES (FOX 13) - After a valiant struggle and more than a $1,000 veterinary bill, Myra the poodle has died.

She was mauled by three dogs triple her size while being walked in her Lake Wales neighborhood on Monday night.

"I am destroyed and heart broken. She was all I had to come home to," her owner, Azard Baksh told FOX 13 News.

Baksh says his neighbor, Jackie Hammack, has been harassing him for months, calling him a "Muslim terrorist" and threatening to let his dogs loose to attack him.

Actually, Baksh is not Muslim and has served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 24 years. His wife died after battling cancer in 2012. Myra was his only companion.

On Monday night, Baksh and Myra were taking their nightly stroll around the block. He said Hammack came out of his house, stark naked, and let all five of his dog loose. He said three of them jumped on Myra and ripped open her hind end.

Hammack was arrested and faces a number of charges, but Baksh said that is not going to bring Myra back.

"I just think he is going to bond out," Baksh said. "And I'll see him again, except I won't be walking a dog."
