Dozens of children gain families during Hillsborough Adoption Day

TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Hillsborough County courthouse was filled with smiles, hugs, and the promise of happy homes Thursday during the yearly Adoption Day ceremony.

November is National Adoption month and every year children and teens in the foster system are united with their forever families.

Six-year-old Imani Amoros is just one of dozens of kids being adopted in Hillsborough County. She broke into her happy dance and said, "I like being adopted."

Her new mom, Natasha Suber has already raised two kids who are all grown up.

Just when she thought she was done, she decided to take on a 6-year-old and a newborn, Jermaine, who was just eight days old. 

Suber plans to adopt Jermaine soon, but Thursday was Imani's day.

"People say, 'You should be done. You should go on vacation,' but the kids are my vacation," Suber said with a smile.

And then you have mother Shelta Riley. She has four kids of her own and will now be the legal parent of her little cousin, whose mother was not able to care for her.

"Some days its stressful but we make it work," Riley said. "She's my little cousin. She's been in my life her whole life. I just didn't want her to get lost in the system. I'd rather her be with her family."
