Dropped cellphone leads to crash with Florida school bus

Authorities say a car crashed into a school bus in Florida when the driver dropped his cellphone and reached down to get it.

The News-Press of Fort Myers reports that a Florida Highway Patrol report says 55-year-old Leroy Kenneth Rogers Jr. was traveling northbound on a road just after 5 a.m. Monday when his car drifted across the center of the roadway, striking the Lee County school bus.

Rogers said he had dropped his cellphone and reached down to get it. He was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road, not wearing a seat belt and not having insurance. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.

Rogers sustained serious injuries. His exact condition is unknown.

No students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
