A letter signed by both Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristen Nielson and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray appears to contradict Sen. Bill Nelson’s claims that Russians have infiltrated Florida’s voting systems ahead of the 2018 elections.

“We have not seen new or ongoing compromises of state or local election infrastructure in Florida…” the letter reads.

It is addressed to Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner; his department had been investigating Nelson's claims.

He made the shocking allegations earlier this month:

“They have already penetrated certain counties in the state and they now have free reign to move about," Sen. Nelson has said.

He says that is based on U.S. intelligence.

In the letter to the state secretary, it is noted that, “Russian government actors have previously demonstrated both the intent and capability to conduct malicious cyber operations…”

It goes on to say:

“DHS and Florida officials have partnered on a number of initiatives to secure election systems.”

Governor Scott pounced on the letter’s revelations, calling Nelson either "deeply confused or very dishonest, and possibly both."

A representative for Sen. Nelson told FOX 13 he doesn’t see anything in the letter that counters what Nelson said.
