Ferry prepares for first Tampa Bay trip

ST. PETERSBURG - Tuesday morning a ferry boat traveling to and from downtown St. Petersburg and Tampa will make its maiden voyage.

The Cross Bay Ferry will travel from downtown St. Petersburg at the Vinoy Basin to the Pirate Water Taxi Dock next to the Tampa Convention Center.

The first trek is tomorrow for media and city leaders.

The first trip open to the public will be on Friday.

Christal Layman is a small business owner on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, she hopes the pilot ferry program will increase foot traffic for her store.

“We are very excited,” Layman said.  “Our big problem is parking.”

Tickets cost around $10 and go on sale Tuesday, November 1.
