Generous donor replaces stolen items at animal rescue

A generous donor has come forward to replace the items stolen from an animal rescue this week.

Someone burglarized the "It's Raining Cats and Dogs Shelter and Sanctuary" on State Road 60 in Plant City over the weekend, stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment including mowers, drills, saws, and an air conditioning unit.

Laura Santo opened the shelter last year with the money she inherited after her father passed away.

After hearing about the theft, Helen Rich, the heiress to the Wrigley Spearmint Gum fortune, stepped forward to donate a new mower, air conditioner, security system and lights, and insulation, along with workers to help do yardwork and install the new security system and AC unit.

Santo, holding one of the pups, cried when Ian Ferguson presented her with the donations on FOX 13 Wednesday morning. "Thank you so much," Santo said. "I'm just blown away," she said.
